Glossary of Terms Vinyl, PVC, Polyvinyl Chloride: These three terms can generally be used interchangeably. Polyvinyl chloride is the "type" or "family" of plastic that we use for Triple Crown Fence. There are many "families" of plastic: polyethylene (PE), Polypropylene (PP), ABS, styrene, PET, and several others. "Polyvinyl chloride" is abbreviated or shortened to "PVC" or "vinyl." There are also many kinds of PVC. Some formulas are flexible; some are rigid. Some are for interior use only; others are for exterior use. Some are good at resisting breakage; some are not. Royal Crown's formula is rigid, yet impact-resistant and designed for exterior use. Impact Modifiers: Ingredients in the PVC formula that help to keep it from breaking in cold temperatures. In warm weather, the PVC itself resists impacts. In cold weather, the impact modifiers (like little rubber balls throughout the mix) help keep it somewhat flexible and extra strong. Ultraviolet Inhibitors: Ingredients in the PVC formula that protect the PVC from the damaging rays of the sun. If left unprotected, PVC would change color and become more likely to break. Round Rail: 3" diameter round fence rail (the horizontal part of the fence). Available 16' long. Plank Rail: 12" x 52" board used as the horizontal part of the fence. Available 8' and 16' long. Round Post: 5" diameter round extruded post. Used with round rails or plank rails. Available in 4', 52', 7', 8', 9' lengths. Square Post: 5" x 5" square extruded post. Used with plank rails only. Available in the same lengths as round posts. Line Post: A fence post which is used in a straight line of fence. The rail either passes directly through the post, or two rails connect in the post from opposite sides. End Post: A fence post which is punched on one side only. It is used as a terminal post or as the support post for a gate. Corner Post: A fence post punched on two adjacent sides, or 90 degrees apart. It allows for a 90 degree corner. 3-Way or T-Post: A fence post punched on 3 sides, allowing lines of fence to meet a common post. Round Rail Lock: The patented nylon device that securely holds the round rail inside the round post. It eliminates the need for any other attaching device, such as nails, screws, and brackets. Plank Rail Lock: The patented clip (similar to 12 above) which holds the plank rail inside either a round post or square post. These locks hold up to 290 percent better than devices used on other fence designs on the market. Post Caps: Injection-molded tops for round and square posts. They fit inside the top of each post and molded ribs provide a secure pressure-fit. Rail Spacing: Distance between the rails on various styles of fence. In general, the more rails there are, the closer the spacing. Post Spacing: Distance from post-to-post. Triple Crown Fence is designed for posts to be 8' center-to-center. Radius of Curve or Curvature: Fence can be installed to create curves for arenas or to follow irregular property lines. This is done by locating a center point for marking a radius and then placing posts 8' along the arc. Our manual details four possible radius layouts that work out nicely for 8' post spacing. Gate with Latch: A gate with hinge on one end and latch on the other end. Whenever a single 6', 8', or 10' gate is needed, this is the one to use. Gate with Drop Pipe: A gate with hinge on one end and mechanism to accept another gate on the other end. Whenever two gates are needed (for 12', 16', or 20' opening), use one gate with latch and one gate with drop pipe. Hinge Gate Post: Also called mounting post. The fence end post which supports the gate. This post is made up of a steel post inside a vinyl post, and bolted into it is the hinge weldment. Latch Gate Post: The fence end or corner post which accepts the latch end of a gate. A steel post is not necessary inside this vinyl post. Steel Insert: A heavy, galvanized steel pipe that fits inside a vinyl post for sturdy mounting of a gate. Holes are factory made for both bolts and rails. The same insert is used inside round of square posts, and accepts both round and plank rials. Hub Rail: A fencing system using one horizontal round rail with curved posts 8' on center. 32" hub rail is used for lungeing rings and riding arenas. 42" hub rail is used for training tracks, and we have a short version of 42" rail for harness tracks. In hub rail, the curved post fits up inside the rail and is held in place with a patented rail lock. Sleeve: A coupler put on the inside of two sections of hub rail to join them together. T-Sample: A short sample of fence post and rail complete with cap and locks. Useful for showing Triple Crown Fence to prospects. | ||
